on recital…
| i missed writing in this past month - this also serves as something of a journal, and i would like to be able to update it more frequently - i imagine i will have less time to update here the busier my schedule becomes as things begin to ramp up post-pandemic - as it stands, i have just completed my final recital for my masters degree and have come away more of this performance than almost any other— certainly any other solo performance thus far - my efforts and interests in the past couple of years have collided marvelously in this recital; my attention to lighting, camera placement and cues, theatrics, and repertoire all paid dividends in the end - i am very proud of that evening and very thankful for all of the individuals that helped me to achieve it, i truly couldn’t have done it without their help |
| going forward, i find myself at an intersection between disciplines in a way - as a student of music, i have great respect for the practice and persistence that school instills in young artists and the benefits those long hours in a practice room can yield - as a young professional looking to make headway in a new city really a new line of musical work, i have to take into account that i don’t have the hours i once did to commit to one singular act of artistry - having academia as a backdrop for exploration and discovery is a wonderful blessing i took advantage of for too long, luckily i had a year between degrees to appreciate that advantage before starting my masters degree - now, with uncertainty on the horizon in terms of performance, i need to decide what skills are worth cultivating while i continuously try to “make it” in a wholly new environment, lifestyle, and country - wherever i take my practice, i have may 20th, 2021 to reflect on and to recall what it means to give everything to those practices |
